Seven of our students qualified to represent Sponsor-ed Primary School at the District Swimming held at Noble Park Aquatic Centre yesterday. The competition included all 9 other local schools.
The competition provides a pathway to state level competition: District, Division, Region then State. Entrants needed to meet qualifying times set by peak body School Sport Victoria (SSV). SSV is a sub-committee of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
The event comprised 50 races and ran on a ‘heat final’ system whereby each swimmer must swim their fastest in their heat as there is no actual final race: the fastest two swimmers in any event move through to Division, to be held next week.
Our representatives did a fantastic job and team spirit and support was strong. We had a great spot at the finish line of the pool where we enjoyed the competition atmosphere and saw all swimmers pursuing their personal bests. Some of our relay swimmers swam up an age level and competitors included national level swimmers. Age is based on the age the child will turn during the calendar year.
Thank you to all our students who tried out, Mr Peterson and Ms Chrome who marshalled on the day, Mr Timms for various logistics and to those parents who assisted with transport and team support. We look forward to fielding a team again next year.
Students who qualified for the Division Event next week are: James P, Peter A, Sarah K, Millie M, Ava W, Michael S and Jude D.
